I call this track “I don’t know what you are saying”. The reason behind it honestly was my lack of song writing skills. I used elements of Synth Wave, Alternative Rock, and Electronica to put this piece together. I could see this track used in a movie or commercial. It has a somewhat sad feel to it, but it is very chill at the same time.
I produced this track at 124 BPM 4/4 structure. The drums were simple I used an acoustic drum kit “Bluebird” for the Kick, Snare, and Hat. I added more percussion with a Tambourine, Shaker, and a recording of Canadian Wooden Spoons I had laying around my studio. The Bass was “Stinger Bass” in Logic. I wanted the rhythm to be more like a rock ballad.
I started the composition in the kea of D Major for the first 16 measures than I switched to its relative minor which is B Minor. The chords I used for the first 16 bars was Bm - Em -A7 – D then the second 16 bars I used Bm7 -A – G – F#m. I used two 7th chords in the entire harmony. I also doubled the Harmony with a PAD that I created in the ES P Sampler in Logic. The melody is also following the Harmony it is arch shape.
I decide to record two things, the Canadian Wooden spoons that I picked up on my trip to Toronto, and the voice that was given to me. I did not know what to say but it sounded good with the harmony. For the synth tracks numbered 6 and 9, I created the PAD to accompany the harmony Chords and a Percussion sound, for both I used the ES-P Sampler in Logic. For the Sampler Track Number 11, I made a Zap sound using the Q-Sampler it fit nicely with the melody and percussion but it’s in the background not very loud.
I used plenty of processing on the entire composition. Starting with time-based effects I created a Reverb Bus 1, then I routed them to the snare, Tambourine, Percussion, Harmony chords, Melody, and the Zap sound. After that a Delay Bus 4 was added and routed to the recorded vocals on track number 13. For the Dynamic Effects I used mainly EQ and Compression. Every track in this project has EQ on it. For the Compression I only used it for the Kick, Snare, Hat, Bass, Melody, and the Vocals. Speaking about the vocals, since I am not a great singer, I put plenty of effects for best sound. I used De-Esser, Tape Delay, Compressor, Exciter, and a Noise Gate. After adding all the processing effects, I mixed the entire track to be very nice and mellow.
